Dominic Scelzi makes it an even 20 wins by claiming SCCT Cotton Classic on Friday
Hanford, CA…Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi has had a dream season on the West Coast and that certainly continued Friday night at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford.
After winning the Kings of Thunder 410 main event, the 24-year-old racer then proceeded to claim victory in the 30-lap Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards finale. Scelzi’s win at the 36th Cotton Classic marked his fifth career SCCT triumph, giving him sole possession of second place all-time.
“I can’t say enough about my crew chief Jimmy Carr and this whole 41 team,” Scelzi commented. “It’s been an amazing season for us and to reach 20 wins is just unreal. I never thought I’d get one of these Cotton Classic trophies, let alone two in the same night. Hopefully we can keep this up tomorrow back here in Hanford.”
Hanford’s DJ Netto crossed the stripe in second followed by Fremont’s Shane Golobic in third, Rutherford’s Rico Abreu in fourth and Roseville’s Colby Copeland in fifth. Rounding out the top-10 were Clarksburg’s Justyn Cox, Templeton’s Kaleb Montgomery, Foresthill’s Ryan Robinson, Roseville’s Sean Becker and Paradise’ Kyle Hirst. The Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award went to Fremont’s Tristin Guardino, who carved his way from 23rd to 13th.
Due to loop issues early in the night the Sprint Car Challenge Tour opted to utilize a draw show with four heat races, three qualifiers and two B-mains.
Next up for SCCT will be the penultimate event of the season next Saturday October 16th at Petaluma Speedway.
