SCCT Speedweek tilt at Cottage Grove Speedway goes to Landon Brooks

Landon Brooks had been a mark of consistency over the last handful of days and on Wednesday night the Yuba City driver put it all together, capturing Round 5 of SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek at Cottage Grove Speedway.

Brooks piloted the Hamilton Racing with Tiner-Hirst Ent. No. 21L to his second career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge triumph during the final Oregon leg of Speedweek.

The 30-lap Shop Kyle Larson feature began with High Sierra Industries Dash winner Kinzer Cox jumping into the lead following a red flag on the initial start for Levi Klatt and Cole Croft. Both drivers were okay but done for the evening.

The Cottage Grove Speedway showcased multiple lines for drivers to utilize in the main event and kept things entertaining all race long. Landon Brooks stalked Cox over the early laps and pounced with six circuits complete to grab the point.

After that it was all Brooks up front as he pulled away from the pack by a sizeable advantage and went on to accept the Ed Entz checkered flag. It was his second Elk Grove Ford SCCT win of the year, going along with his triumph during the season opener at Placerville in April.  

Current Sprint Car Challenge Tour point leader Justyn Cox gained speed as the race wore on, moving into third on lap 25 and then second just prior to the conclusion. It marked his second straight runner up finish during Speedweek aboard the Josh Bates Racing No. 42X mount.

Last year’s Speedweek runner up Kinzer Cox rounded out the podium after a solid night behind the wheel of the Owen Boys Racing No. 40 Sprinter. Western Sprint Tour Speedweek point leader Colby Copeland crossed the stripe in fourth, while Modesto’s Tony Gomes completed the top five.

Filling out the top 10 were Braden Chiaramonte, Camden Robustelli, Seth Standley, Levi Hillier and Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Dawson Hammes, who started from 24th in the feature.

Heat race wins presented by Tiner-Hirst Ent., BR Motorsports, King Racing Products and A.R.T. Speed Equipment went to Kyle Alberding, Landon Brooks and Tony Gomes. Camden Robustelli tallied the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award with a lap of 11.261 around the quarter mile.

SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek continues this Friday with opening night of the Fred Brownfield 360 Nationals presented by Bob’s Burgers & Brew at Skagit Speedway. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or via www.sprintcarchallengetour.com
