Shane Golobic holds off a charging Cole Macedo to claim Salute to LeRoy Van Conett
Stockton, CA – July 6, 2019…Fremont, California’s Shane Golobic held off a hard charging Cole Macedo to snag his fifth career Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards victory on Saturday night at the Stockton Dirt Track.
Adding in contingency money from the night Golobic and the Matt Wood Racing/ NOS Energy Drink No. 17w team went home with $2,800 for the efforts. Along with his main event win he also claimed the Quick Time Mortgage/ ADCO Driveline & Custom Exhaust Fast Time Award, the High Sierra Industries Dash and the Metal Works Fastest Lap Award.
The Kyle Larson Racing Full Time Bonus was not claimed however, which elevates the SCCT season-finale on November 2nd in Stockton to $6,500-to-win.
The best show of the main event on Saturday was watching Lemoore’s Cole Macedo charge through the field. After slowing with steering issues early on the driver of the Mike Phulps/ Metal Works No. 56 rocketed around cars while racing the extreme high side of the speedway. Once Macedo charged into second he closed on Golobic and hounded his rear tail tank for several laps. Golobic did a solid job however and maintained the lead until a late race caution waved with just four laps remaining.
On the restart Macedo blasted around the outside of Golobic and took the lead, but right as that happened the yellow flag waved for a stopped car in turn two. With Golobic back in front he moved up a little higher on the track for the remaining laps and crossed under the Ed Entz checkered flag for his fourth career Stockton Dirt Track win, tying him with Dominic Scelzi for second all time. Macedo brought home a runner up finish to match his career best with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
San Jose’s Tim Kaeding came home in third, with Roseville’s Sean Becker in fourth and Hollister’s Tony Gualda in fifth. The top-10 was completed by Tracy’s Kyle Offill, Paradise’ Kyle Hirst, Gridley’s Alec Justeson, Hanford’s Zane Blanchard and Roseville’s Colby Copeland. Justeson earned the $200 Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award in the feature.
